We lab you, Janina!

And in the classic case of the "pot calling the kettle black" (or better still, as Triumph the Insult Dog would say, "the asshole calling shit brown"), I bring you the other airhead...Ruffa Gutierrez!

We love talking about her. ;)

In fairness, not just to Janina, but to us Filipinos who can't really speak perfect English, we shouldn't judge her or put her down. Just think that there are also Americans who can't speak perfect English yet nobody talks about them.

Janina is currently in the cover of Manual Magazine, and she looks hot!!!!!!  Makes me totally forget what she said

if one does'nt have a good command of the english language, especially in a public competition like that, then speak in Filipino. naging mayabang siya kasi.

Guys or gals, give Janina a change. She is still young, and in time she will learn how to speak good english.  English language  is not easy as you think it is , you have to speak it frequently to become good at it.  Janina if you're reading this, don't worry about the negative comments, sometimes  people say something  just to make them feel better about themselves at the expense of your weakness, but in reality they're not far  better than you.   They are  just  pretending to be  more superior , they did not accomplish what you accomplished, and that is  something that they can only dream of, and they are jealous abou it.  Follow your dreams and do your best,  these  people wants to see you fail. Guys back off!!!

she needs to enroll call center course to improve her $ accent.

 beauty with less brains

nonetheless, great in bed

I think Janina is a "STUNNER"...I think she was given a scholarship by one of the judges..Going back to Ruffa, I heard a rumor a long time ago that she is a very high class Escort.. Any of you posters can confirm this?

sayang.. she's pretty pa naman.. i hope she improves before she competes internationally para hindi naman nakakahiya ang pinas. hehe.. oh, and by the way, i never liked ruffa too. hahaha.. she's a hardcore trying-hard.. haha

it proved once again that if you're pretty you can get away with murder.

It would have been better for her(janina) if even her english was bad but her answers had good content.  I agree, I don't like Ruffa too.

I think she's really pretty. I do not understand how she won, she was not able to answer the question, she just rephrased it atrociously. We can forgive the awful English but what she said just didn't make any sense. I don't really think beauty contests showcase beauty and brains. Beauty and some brains and in this case, beauty and very little brain.

they say that she won because the new format of the miss world pageant gives more weight on the evening gown and swimsuit portions rather than the question and answer (according to channel 7 reporter). since she won best in swimsuit and best in long gown, she was a shoe in for the title despite her not so intellectual answer in the Q&A.

but if you ask me, having somebody like her represent our country is a big mistake. she would be an embarassment to our country once she opens her mouth for the Q&A, if she makes it that far.

I think she can still have a chance if she'll hire an interpreter (english-tagalog) or (english - jologs)   Peace!

hahaha sure, if all they wanted was to get into the "taff ten", then maybe she was the right choice. were the judges so sure she'd stand out over how many other contestants by the way? and since by extension, she'd be representing the WORLD after representing our country IF she were to be chosen, is it possible the WORLD will want to be represented by the likes of her? stranger things have happened.

sheesh, no wonder our country is in such a mess. the judging reflects what we want as a nation. to get so far and no farther because we don't want to IMPROVE our lot (gosh, where did she get her primary education i wonder), and then make excuses on the way to failure.

Why force herself to speak in a language where she is not comfortable?  Like any other beauty contestants, she can always ask for an interpreter and answer back in Pilipino and let the interpreter worry about grammar.  That way, she can express herself more freely.  Kung Pinay ka, dapat ipagmalaki mo ang sarili mong wika.  It's that simple....

i doubt if she could have given a meaningful answer in any language.

janinna san miguel is a classic example of womeone who is best seen and not heard. she certainly cannot be blamed for her "performance", the real shcoker is that the judges actually think (by crowning her, it is implied) that she can best represent our country. hmmm, and she is a mass COMMUNICATION student, yes, i can see how that works... actually i don't.

as for ruffa... she sounded better, but did she say anything substantative in that interview? did it reflect the cosmopolitanism and sophistication she (according to her) acquired in her exposure to international society and culture? that was great ha! our maid couldn't have done better!

What I found irritatingly hilarious about Ruffa's comments is that even she could not speak straight English nor straight Tagalog.  Her response was full of Taglish terms.

never liked her. beneath the very thin and brittle veneer of apparent sophistication is a personality staright out of the sewer. beauty is only skin-deep, ugly cuts to the bone. in her case, it's very thin skin indeed.

Never liked her.  Couldn't stand her antics.  She tries so hard to look sophisticated.

i think we will be the laughingstock of the world if we send Janina to represent us in any international pageant. She HAS to improve her English (candidates using intrepreters almost never win).....being 17 and in your first pageant is NOT an excuse for nonsensical replies!

well just give her a try. stagefright got and owned her. as long as she will never do that again I'm ok with her representing philippines
