Predestined to be polygamous?
Here's a piece of interesting information that I found from the Newscientist site:
[Population geneticist Michael] Hammer and his colleagues sequenced DNA from 90 people belonging to six groups: Melanesians, Basques, Han Chinese, as well as three African cultures: Mandenka, Biaka and San.
Hammer's team discovered more genetic differences in the X chromosome than would be expected if equal numbers of males and females tended to mate, over human history. The only explanation for this pattern is widespread, long-lasting polygyny, he says.
His team's analysis reflects all of human history, and modern monogamy has not even left a blip in our genomes. "I don't know how long monogamy has been with us," Hammer says. "It seems it hasn't been around long, evolutionarily."
Many of my friends do "stray," whether it be from their wives or their girlfriends. They do not necessarily have mistresses, but they do cavort with MPAs?, GROs?, and other PSPs?.
So when one says that "playing the field" is considered "cheating," that person may be more hypocritical than you think.

Even our laws permit it
Adultery is a case that can only be filed against a woman. For men it is concubinage. But a wife cannot just file a case of concubinage against her husband, three circumstances should be justified: 1. that the sexual act was done on conjugal dwelling where the wife lives; 2. was the husband caught in a scandalous circumstances; 3. is the husband and the other girl living in the same abode with the wife.
A mrried man has more leverage in court just as long as he is and his other girl are descreet about their relationship.
I believe that it IS in our
I believe that it IS in our genes. As an organism, we have to spread our dna and our seed around to ensure the survival of our species. But, there are so many things that are part of our nature..like violence, greed and the want for power. Survival of the fittest/ the strong shall dominate. The thing that makes us human is the ability to go against our programming or natural desires. So I don't believe it's being hypocritical to consider such cheating.
But there are so many cheaters, the chances of them being hypocritical are high :)
Then again, that's just my opinion.
